The one thing I share at the beginning of meeting my clients is that I do not expect them to respect or trust me right away, because it must be earned. I work very hard to build a therapeutic alliance where that respect and trust can develop. My clients work hard because I challenge (and support) them to think, to process, and to change.

In addition to experience treating a number of common concerns – anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, etc - I specialize in helping clients navigate grief.
Starting a new chapter can feel like a daunting task, but I believe there’s power in embracing the unwritten story, especially when you hold the pen. Counseling should be a collaborative process and together we'll find the right modality to fit your needs, whether it's CBT, mindfulness, narrative, etc. The narrative approach, for example, tells us everyone is the expert on their life. You're the main character and with that starring role comes unforeseen plot twists & turns, as well as the opportunity to edit out unhealthy habits, process past chapters, and start new ones.

+ Grief over the death of a loved one or the loss of a relationship or professional situation can be overwhelming.
Well-meaning people try to coach you to “get over” it and move on. But it seems the hurt grows deeper as you struggle to find any sense of hope or meaning. Sometimes you're not even sure that moving in the right direction is possible. But it is. And you can!

I specialize in anxiety and depression treatment, grief support, and I am trained in prolonged exposure therapy (PTSD).
If you are battling stress, having difficulty adjusting, are grieving, feel held back by depression or anxiety, PTSD, have concern about your substance/alcohol use, or just need someone to talk to while you work through a hard time, so often the only way out is through. We can find a way. My counseling style is existential in nature, with a strengths-based approach. Life is, by its very nature, challenging. Without challenge, it isn’t life at all. What matters is how we face those challenges. You have strengths. We can find them. You can use them.

I'm dedicated to providing an accepting environment in which clients can explore and analyze their feelings, experiences, and behaviors in order to achieve the goals they set for themselves. In my practice with clients, I tend to be friendly, talkative, and empathetic with my clients, but unafraid to point out patterns and hold clients accountable so that clients can feel safe and understood, but also ensure growth continues.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
