CBT helps examine how thoughts impact emotions, while DBT focuses on building skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and healthier relationships.
My ideal clients are anyone who may be feeling overwhelmed as they navigate life’s changes. Whether it’s school transitions, family challenges, anxiety, grief, or behavioral concerns, these experiences can leave individuals feeling unheard and loved ones unsure of how to provide support. I create a warm, supportive space where clients feel understood, valued, and safe. I offer support to adults, children, teens, and families in building coping skills, strengthening communication, and finding confidence and connection during times of transition.

Growing up and becoming an adult and figuring life out can be full of bumps in the road, detours and roadblocks. We have to learn how to navigate them and come out on the other side. I can help understand how your past has gotten you to this point and how you move forward. I am licensed in Kentucky with 20 years of professional work experience. In 2001, I graduated from the University of Louisville with a Master's Degree in Social Work. From 2002 until June 2022, I worked helping foster youth and clients in their own apartments learn how to handle the traumas they had experienced in their biological family.

In a therapeutic environment of safety and compassion, we explore how to use that information to construct healthy relationships and a satisfying life for you.
People are helped to move past the management of symptoms into relief recovery. If people are experiencing depression, anxiety, anger, grief, marital or work issues there are reasons for this and I work with people in a collaborative way to understand why they are experiencing problems and how to resolve them.

You may be fresh off a discovery and on the verge of losing your relationship.
My approach is comprehensive, meaning I don’t just focus on behavior change and “avoiding triggers.” I want to equip you with specific skills and also get to the root of your relationship with problematic sexual behaviors. There is almost always an emotional component that creates attachment to the problem behavior. We want to identify and correct these.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
