You find yourself anxiously checking your ovulation calendar and the words "Not Pregnant" pierce you. Maybe you appear to love this new motherhood gig but question whether this is really for you. Perhaps the hope of being a
parent
is lost after the death of a child. You find it hard to ask for help. You feel alone. You're having trouble remembering who you were before all this. Your patience is paper thin and the anger feels uncontrollable. The intrusive thoughts can be overwhelming, and your tears can be turned on and off like a bathroom sink. This shit is hard. You thought this was supposed to be the happiest time of your life.

My work is dedicated to helping children, teens and families improve their overall functioning and cohesiveness, in addition to struggles related to trauma, mental health,
parenting
, self-esteem, career and life transition struggles.
Is your child or teen struggling with transitions? Does everything end up in a power struggle? Are they frequently anxious and angry? Maybe you have tried consequences, but those consequences are not working and setting firmer limits ends in more stress. Helping them regulate big emotions may be difficult for you and lead to frustration and confusion. I can support your child or teen in learning to regulate their emotions.

My ideal clients are children and their families. I am passionate about helping children and their families interact and communicate with each other effectively. Feeling loved, listened to, and validated by our family is one of the best feelings. Although I enjoy working with children, I also know that having a strong parental figure(s) is important. Sometimes a single
parent
or a couple is who needs to be in the therapy room to initiate change in a family system.

Are you a
parent
of a teen who is going through an emotional whirlwind? Does your teen have emotional outbursts seemingly out of nowhere? Does your teen seem distant, sad and disconnected? Is your teen having trouble expressing him/herself or connecting with peers? Being a
parent
can be the most meaningful and fulfilling experience we will ever have in our lives, and also sometimes the most challenging, exhausting, and emotionally overwhelming. The truth is that no matter how strongly we love our teens, and how powerfully we want the best for them, life's challenges can still get in the way of our teens thriving at their best.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
