I've been working with adults, teens, children, families and couples for over 25 years as a private-practice psychologist and a consultant for area school districts.
Adolescence can be a trying time for teenagers as they mature emotionally and try to handle new responsibilities in school, at home, and in planning for the future. It becomes all the more difficult if a teen is going through another issue like their parents getting divorced, difficulty learning in school, or losing an old group of friends. Sometimes just being able to talk to an adult who isn't their parent can help them process everything going on in their world and make positive changes.

I work with adults, teens, children, couples and families.
Do you struggle in your life with strong reactions to events that seem out of your control? Do you find yourself captured by anger, upset, fear, or anxiety? Have you wanted to find a way to take the difficult things that have happened in your life and somehow have them set a foundation for you to have a better, less critical connection with yourself and others around you? I know how hard it is to make real changes that will lead to lasting peace, joy and effectiveness. I also know that it is absolutely possible to change course and rebuild.

Are you an adult who is feeling stuck? You know what you "should" be doing, but don’t know why you haven’t been able to yet? Have you been told to use mindfulness techniques to ease anxiety, but haven’t found a practice that works for you or feels accessible? Are you grieving the loss of a person, relationship or identity-and the world is telling you to “move on”, or that you aren't grieving "the right way"? Are you looking for a safe space for your child or teen to express their emotions honestly and learn coping skills related to stressful life events? Have they refused therapy citing distrust, boredom or no connection?

I specialize in treating stress/burnout, grief, anxiety, and depression, although I also enjoy working with relationship and blended family issues.
Most of my patients describe sessions with me as "effective." Yes, I'll sit and listen, empathize, and you'll know I genuinely care about you and your life. But you'll also probably hear things from me that others may not be willing to tell you. Why? Because I want to see you live the life you are capable of and unlocking many of those interactions helps with that process! I generally use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy along with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. They are both great types of therapy that focus on behavioral strategies for change after examination of your thinking.

Consultation is available for individuals, couples and families. Stress and anxiety are often related to chronic problems in important relationships. Feeling uncertain or overwhelmed re: how to proceed can leave us feeling stuck and helpless. Taking time to discuss and more clearly define the problem can be initial steps to managing self in more optimal ways. Identifying a plan of action as to how to proceed can shrink anxiety and encourage movement toward more positive and satisfying relationships.

After working with teens, adults, families, and couples , I’ve learned that directness, authenticity, and honesty goes a long way, so this tends to be my approach to therapy.
Hi and welcome! For starters, reaching out for help isn’t easy, so if you’re here, I commend you. It takes courage and bravery to ask for help! I am a believer that relationships heal, but also realize that often our closest relationships can cause a lot of pain. If you’re dealing with past hurts, difficulty with trust, trying to measure up, and struggling to communicate, I am here to help. How we view ourselves, others, and the world influences how we navigate day to day life and can leave us feeling stressed, overwhelmed, sad, down, hopeless, and uncertain about the future.

I work with couples using Gottman Method, and am a sex-positive therapist.
I am a holistic and somatic therapist. There are times in life where we get stuck; locked in traumas of the past, or fearful of things to come. Our body tells us we’re on the wrong path through anxiety, disordered eating, conflict in our relationships, GI problems, and other adverse symptoms. In therapy, I help you discover what your body is telling you. Through Somatic Experiencing, you’ll learn how to heal the intensity of your experience of past events that keeps you feeling overwhelmed and settle your nervous system in the here and now. For those seeking nutritional psychology this is used to improve anxiety & other symptoms.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
