If you and/or your child or teen has hit a rough patch and are feeling stuck, YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Many individuals and families find themselves struggling through difficult situations or stuck in old patterns. If this is you or your family, you have likely tried many ways to break out of these circumstances. Finding your way through the struggle to discover and connect with your strengths and abilities can be challenging.

My specialties are
codependency
, anxiety, self-esteem, childhood trauma, and grief counseling.
You’ve always felt like you were different. You think about things more deeply than most people, you seem to feel things more deeply too. Often you find yourself appeasing others at your own expense because the idea of confrontation and asserting yourself feels so overwhelming. You hold yourself to really high standards and constantly compare yourself to others. In fact, you’ve gotten so used to being what other people want you to be that you aren’t even sure who you are anymore. You’re tired of relying on external validation and tired of struggling so much to speak up for your needs.

My specialty is self-esteem, effectiveness in relationships, substance use disorder/
codependency
, trauma, depression, anxiety and other disorders.
I believe that we all reach places in our lives where we are learning, unlearning and possibly relearning the existential areas of: who am I, what do I want, and what are my barriers & blind spots? Some may need support identifying or answering these questions cause they can be overwhelming. We often develop limitations in efforts to cope with grief, stress, control, hurt & relationships. So do you wonder,"What might be getting in my way or holding me back?", or "What I am avoiding?" or "Do I want to be more effective in my relationship?" Therapy can support you when you are answering these incredibly rich questions for yourself.

I believe that you can find hope in a lot places. You can see it in a stranger's smile, feel it in a parent's embrace, or hear it in the sweet sound of an old hymn. More than any other place, I believe we look for hope in our relationships. Unfortunately, the reality for most of us is that our relationships are where we find our greatest pain. Whether we have been hurt or maybe we have done the hurting, the pain of disconnection, rejection and abandonment leave their mark on our lives.

“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” - Georges Seurat Pointillism is the art of creating a picture out of hundreds, thousands, or even millions of small dots. We as humans are like a pointillism picture, but rather than paint or colored pencil, our dots are made up of family, friends, school, work, beliefs, cultures, personality, preferences, and so much more. Every dot that makes up your life is important for positive change and growth.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.
What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.
How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.
What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
