Navigating teen years can be challenging, both for teens and parents! Naturally, adolescence is a time of transition with changes in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. These transitions bring symptoms of anxiety , depression, and unhealthy coping. Now, add the uncertainty and change of COVID, and teens are having even more difficulty adapting and coping. I help teens to gain insight and provide a new perspective. My goal is for them to learn how to be more self-aware, manage stress, cope with changes, have healthy relationships, build a positive image, and handle difficult situations.

One that is not controlled by you anxiety , depression, or self doubt.
Your inner critic’s voice is at a 10 but you can’t seem to quiet those thoughts. It's got you this far after all … but you’re tired. Tired of always feeling like you have to put others before yourself or they’ll stop caring about you. Tired of hating what you see every time you look in the mirror. Tired of always wondering “what if…”. Somehow both worried about the future and stuck in the past. Feeling like you’re never enough. Like you can never rest. Constantly hustling for your worth. You want a life where you aren't so fucking tired, but it seems so far out of reach. Well guess what, you just took the first step!

I work with children, adults and families dealing with stress, depression, anxiety , ADHD, divorce, family conflict, parenting, grief, self-esteem and life changes.
I have worked as a school counselor for the past several years and am now enjoying private practice as well. Counseling in a school setting has granted me the opportunity to work with my students and their family members. Exploring family systems and fostering an understanding between family members is one of my greatest passions. I also enjoy working with adults that are going through the many challenges and changes that life can throw at us. As the poet Mary Oliver so beautifully puts it "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? " —Mary Oliver

I have a passion for working with people with complex trauma, anxiety , depression, grief, as well as other struggles. I am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and utilize that modality in addition to traditional therapy to help people process and overcome their challenges. I use a direct, structured, and goal oriented approach while also offering hope and compassion when working with my clients. EMDR is most well known for treating trauma, but I have found success in treating OCD and various other phobias also.

I care about forming secure connections with those we love while discovering resources to move forward with less anxiety , more attunement and increased peace.
Life can be full of joy but can also be lonely and deeply painful. Your personal life may feel unbalanced or your relationships seem stuck. I think it is very courageous to seek health and healing from hurt, internal strife or relational trauma. Relationships cause tremendous pain but can also be the source of magnificent healing. Oftentimes a comfortable, inviting space where you can safely explore who you are at your core is just what you need to begin flourishing and thriving. That same space can be precisely the respite your relationships need.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
