You and those you love live in scary and uncertain times. You likely find yourself in a world you barely recognize, having to get by with more needs on fewer resources. We have all began to see the results of living under constant fight-or-flight stress while an entire world struggles to get by without needed coping skills, adequate financial resources, or knowing where to turn for guidance.

Sometimes life brings difficulties we never imagined we would have to deal with. These are situations, circumstances and events like parenting a difficult child, experiencing anxiety or depression, and problems at school, work, or home that we just don't feel equipped to deal with. Many of us expect ourselves to be able to resolve these difficulties and when we can't we feel defeated. Worry, distress, and apathy have run their course and now it's time to get help. I am sensitive to your situation and can help you find relief.

My areas of expertise are couples work, relationship issues, self-criticism and self-doubt, anxiety and depression.
Like many of us, most of my clients are seeking greater meaning in their lives, improved connection and satisfaction in relationships, and relief from loneliness, worry, rumination, and shame. My practice is based on values that emphasize acceptance/non-judgment, compassion, and authenticity. Starting therapy doesn't need to have a rigid plan or agenda. Simply being curious or wanting to feel better is a great place to start. We all need a space where we don't feel judged and are free to explore who we are, what we want, and who we want to become.

Sometimes all you need is a compassionate and skilled listener to provide direction for your unique story. I work with clients challenged by life stage changes, parenting, grief, identity issues, addiction, anxiety, and OCD. I bring to our sessions an experienced clinically-trained eye that provides a safe, grounded space where your story can be met with compassion and understanding. As you grow your self-confidence and emotional awareness (you may even become a friend to your emotions rather than running from them!) having the courage to set healthy boundaries that used to feel unimaginable can become your reality.

I offer EMDR as a mode to process stress, trauma, pain, and shame. I also help my clients build coping skills, shed light on more adaptive patterns, and move toward self compassion.

Everyone has problems. We cannot control the circumstances or people that show up in our lives, but we can decide how we are going to respond to them. Not knowing how you feel, what you think or what you want contributes to confusion, frustration, anxiety and depression. Establishing your own authentic self, as opposed to what others want you to be, can be a difficult task. Developing assertive communication skills and understanding your own emotional boundaries are essential to managing distressing symptoms and situations. I can help you take charge of your life and create the one you want.

I work with first responders, individuals navigating grief, and women in midlife facing emotional and life transitions. Many are high-responsibility professionals carrying the weight of repeated trauma, long shifts, or the expectation to stay composed. These pressures can show up as irritability, emotional numbness, sleep disruption, or difficulty connecting at home. I also support those navigating grief, whether from line-of-duty loss, sudden death, or personal life losses. For women in midlife, hormonal, relational, and identity changes can feel disorienting or overwhelming.

Whether it be preparing for the journey ahead, taking stock of what happened in the past, or figuring out what is happening in the now, a place to check-in and be heard should be available to everyone. Being able to talk openly about yourself and all that entails, whether it be your identity, what's troubling you, and/or how you want to move forward, is something I wish to harbor in therapy

Marriage Counseling Therapists
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
