Do you have difficulty sitting in an office to do therapy? Is there a disconnect between mind and body for you? Sometimes we KNOW the stuff, but have difficulty connecting and applying it so our nervous system can truly heal. This is where advanced practice EMDR (with or without horses) can create new pathways to mental wellness! Come join me at Heartland Therapeutic Riding, inc. for traditional therapy, in a non-traditional setting! Options include "Walk and Talk" sessions on our well maintained trails, working directly with horses during session, or just finding a quiet space at the farm to clear your mind and heal your soul.

I found my passion working with kids with Autism, at all levels. I have worked at a PRTF for 6 years as a therapist. Since being in private practice for the last 4 years, I have enjoyed working with clients of all ages with a range of struggles.

You’re the one people turn to. The helper, the caretaker, or the friend who holds it all together. You may feel like your own needs have fallen to the wayside. Burnout, old trauma, or constant anxiety may be wearing on you, and you're looking for a gentler, slower way to live that feels safe and manageable. I work with clients 12+ who are drawn to nontraditional therapy, including holistic and animal-assisted approaches. You and those you love live in scary and uncertain times. You likely find yourself in a world you barely recognize, having to get by with more needs on fewer resources. We have all began to see the results of living under constant fight-or-flight stress while an entire world struggles to get by without needed coping skills, adequate financial resources, or knowing where to turn for guidance.

Sometimes life brings difficulties we never imagined we would have to deal with. These are situations, circumstances and events like parenting a difficult child, experiencing anxiety or depression, and problems at school, work, or home that we just don't feel equipped to deal with. Many of us expect ourselves to be able to resolve these difficulties and when we can't we feel defeated. Worry, distress, and apathy have run their course and now it's time to get help. I am sensitive to your situation and can help you find relief.

I offer therapy sessions in-person, and virtual counseling with evening availability only.
From a young age, I always knew I wanted to help people. I endured many conflicts with my health, relationships in my teenage years and throughout the entirety of my academic experience. In spite of this, I made it my greatest endeavor to begin my own healing journey. In doing this, I discovered, how important it is to be seen and feel heard. In that moment I realized that I desired to create a similar safe space for others. Your story, and experiences deserve to be recognized, and I hope to provide an environment that brings you comfort and peace.

My ideal client wants to work with me on identifying personal goals, behaviors that limit their success, and resources that will empower them to be successful. They are willing to work as hard as I do. I have devoted much time and energy to understanding how adverse experiences in life have created ways of surviving in the past, but create chaos in the present. My client will experiment with new behaviors between sessions and we will evaluate their progress. I use outcome rating scales to track client self assessment and session rating scales to get my client's assessment of our therapeutic relationship.

FAQ - About In Person Therapy
What are the benefits of in-person therapy?
In-person therapy offers several benefits that some people find highly valuable for their mental health treatment. Being present in the same room as your therapist can create a stronger sense of connection and allow for more nuanced communication through body language. Some people may also find it easier to focus in therapy when they are in a dedicated space and away from potential distractions related to home or work; attending an in-person session provides a clear boundary between therapy time and the rest of your life. For certain therapeutic approaches, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), exposure therapy, or somatic therapy, being in person may be particularly important, as these therapies benefit from the therapist being able to observe and respond to a client’s physical cues effectively. Additionally, some individuals simply feel more comfortable discussing sensitive or painful topics when they are face-to-face with their therapist rather than on a screen.

When should I choose in-person therapy over online therapy?
In-person therapy may be a better choice when you need a structured therapeutic environment separate from your daily life, when you find it difficult to focus or feel comfortable in an online setting, or when privacy at home is a concern. It may also be more appropriate if you are dealing with severe mental health symptoms that require close monitoring or if your therapy involves approaches that rely heavily on observing physical cues. On the other hand, if convenience, scheduling flexibility, or access to specialists outside your immediate area are priorities, online therapy may be a better fit. Many therapists offer both options, so you can also discuss with a provider which format might work best for your specific situation.

How do I find an in-person therapist?
You can use Psychology Today's therapist directory to find an in-person therapist in your area. You can search by location, insurance accepted, specialty areas, therapeutic approaches, and other criteria to narrow down providers who meet your needs. Each therapist profile includes information about their credentials, areas of expertise, and whether they offer in-person sessions. Once you have identified potential therapists, you can contact them directly through the directory to schedule an initial consultation and determine whether they are a good fit before committing to ongoing treatment. When reaching out, it can be helpful to confirm their availability for in-person appointments, their office location, and whether they accept your insurance.
