Do you have difficulty sitting in an office to do therapy? Is there a disconnect between mind and body for you? Sometimes we KNOW the stuff, but have difficulty connecting and applying it so our nervous system can truly heal. This is where advanced practice EMDR (with or without horses) can create new pathways to mental wellness! Come join me at Heartland Therapeutic Riding, inc. for traditional therapy, in a non-traditional setting! Options include "Walk and Talk" sessions on our well maintained trails, working directly with horses during session, or just finding a quiet space at the farm to clear your mind and heal your soul.

You and those you love live in scary and uncertain times. You likely find yourself in a world you barely recognize, having to get by with more needs on fewer resources. We have all began to see the results of living under constant fight-or-flight stress while an entire world struggles to get by without needed coping skills, adequate financial resources, or knowing where to turn for guidance.

Not accepting new clients
I have a track record of being able to form positive working relationships with clients of all ages and have a high level of success in helping resolve difficult situations.
Sometimes life brings difficulties we never imagined we would have to deal with. These are situations, circumstances and events like parenting a difficult child, experiencing anxiety or depression, and problems at school, work, or home that we just don't feel equipped to deal with. Many of us expect ourselves to be able to resolve these difficulties and when we can't we feel defeated. Worry, distress, and apathy have run their course and now it's time to get help. I am sensitive to your situation and can help you find relief.

I believe the most important part of therapy is the relationship I have with each individual client.
I am currently only accepting new clients for Assessments (ADHD, learning disabilities, Autism, mood disorders, etc). Do you feel stuck, or at an impasse in your current life? Perhaps the use of a substance or a behavior has become a larger piece of your life than you wanted it to. It could be that anxiety or depression have kept you from achieving what you want, or being who you want to be. Maybe you’ve had a change in your life that’s been difficult to handle. Perhaps your child/teen is having difficulty at home or in school. I have experience working with clients of all ages, and tailor my approach to each individual.

I also have experience working with clients who are struggling with parenting issues, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, and low self-esteem.
Many people feel that they are destined to repeat unhealthy patterns of behavior that have been passed down from generations before them. The feeling of hopelessness sets in and it is easy to just accept that nothing will ever change. I work with high functioning, motivated people who are ready to break that cycle of unhealthy behavior patterns and are looking for help. My goal is to help you break those patterns and feel empowered to live a more fulfilling life!

I specialize in working with adults and teens who have experienced trying circumstances such as abuse, trauma depression, anxiety, anger, self-contempt, and difficult relationships.
“Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.” -Robert Schuller I’m glad that you’re here it’s the first step. This takes great courage, and you don’t have to do it alone anymore. The fight to keep going is a daily struggle. You’re sad, anxious, lack clarity in life and long for direction. Everyone else appears to have it all together. You keep asking, “Why can’t this be me?” Something positive needs to happen and soon. That’s why I’m here. Just call you’ve already made it this far. Therapeutically, we can begin to unpack the process of what needs to change. Together we can find solutions and travel the road of self-discovery

Others are in relationships where the same arguments keep happening and nothing seems to change.
I've been doing this for 22 years and specialize in anxiety, complex-PTSD, couples counseling, and neurofeedback. I use CBT & EMDR for anxiety and complex-PTSD, and the Gottman Method for couples. For clients who feel stuck, I'm one of few therapists in the KC area Board Certified in Neurofeedback, a brain-based, drug-free option for anxiety and trauma.

Maybe the same arguments keep repeating, family relationships feel tense, or you’re struggling quietly on your own.
In sessions, you can expect a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental space. You won’t be blamed or “fixed.” Instead, we’ll work collaboratively to build insight, emotional awareness, and practical tools that fit your life. With couples and families, we focus on improving communication, strengthening emotional connection, and creating healthier ways of relating.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
