You’re the one people turn to. The helper, the caretaker, or the friend who holds it all together. You may feel like your own needs have fallen to the wayside. Burnout, old trauma, or constant anxiety may be wearing on you, and you're looking for a gentler, slower way to live that feels safe and manageable.
I work with clients 12+ who are drawn to nontraditional therapy, including holistic and animal-assisted approaches. Together, we’ll create a path that nurtures your heart, honors your pace, and supports your well-being.

You and those you love live in scary and uncertain times. You likely find yourself in a world you barely recognize, having to get by with more needs on fewer resources. We have all began to see the results of living under constant fight-or-flight stress while an entire world struggles to get by without needed coping skills, adequate financial resources, or knowing where to turn for guidance.

One of my favorite quotes is by Emily Dickinson, "I am out with the lanterns looking for myself." Over the last 47 years of wandering this earth, I don't know a lot to be true, but I strongly believe that we are all doing the best we can with what we have. Sometimes we just don't have what we need. We are all better together. We are all wandering this earth trying to find purpose. And we all need help finding our way. There is a wild and holy beast inside of all of us waiting to be loved and tamed...but kept a little wild. Our wild is our magic. It is why people love us. Please stay a little wild.

I have overcome low self-esteem and poor body image in my own life.
The Infidelity and Women's Therapist. Therapy can be different from what you've experienced before. Faced with the fear of divorce? I have been there, conquered those fears and have come out soaring on the other side. Sometimes the best thing for a relationship is for it to end and sometimes it just needs some tweaking for it to be exactly the way you hoped it would be. It can be hard to know for sure if the relationship is too far gone, if it can be saved, or if you even want the relationship. We can work together to make sense of your experience.

I work with clients, especially teens and young adults, to help navigate the negative narratives that they hold about themselves, their lives, their worth, and their body image.
You are ending another day frustrated and at a loss. You are unsure of how to navigate relationships, don't feel particularly happy with yourself, and you aren't sure of how to best communicate and connect with others. You don't know who you want to be, and when you have ideas of what that could be, you don't know how to get there. When you try to talk to others about the pain you're feeling, shame blocks any potential for connection, and you are surrounded by isolation, secrecy, and judgment.

Whether you're a teenager, young adult, or currently navigating adulthood, I will use my experience to help you communicate more clearly and speak up for yourself. In sessions, we can address issues surrounding anxiety, depression, trauma, disordered eating, chronic pain, and chronic health issues and work towards better symptom management.

I think "moving on” from life's challenges isn’t easy; it doesn’t matter what actually happened/happening... getting over whatever is going on in your life is just hard. I think “moving on” actually means you have to move “through” & I provide a safe space for that to happen. I’m an experienced therapist who believes some topics deserve a deep dive & others are better tackled with solution-focused coaching. Over the years, I’ve helped people cope, heal, recover & basically “move on” from the hard stuff.

Body Image Therapists
How does body image affect mental health?
Poor body image can influence mental health because it can reduce self-esteem and decrease functioning in other areas of one's life. Negative body image may hinder someone's ability to perform daily tasks, including professional and social responsibilities, because they may feel self-conscious or shame surrounding their appearance; a desire to change one's body as a result of negative body image can also trigger behaviors such as extreme dieting, excessive exercise, or obsessive social media comparison. Poor body image is associated with a number of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and eating disorders, although many people experience negative body image even in the absence of meeting the diagnostic criteria for any mental health disorders.
What does it mean to have a positive body image?
Body image refers to how one internally perceives their appearance and internally "talks" to themself about their body. Positive body image is therefore indicative of a positive perception of one's self and positive internal self-talk that underscores one's strengths. People who have good body image often have higher self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence, and they also often recognize how external factors, such as social media or relationship patterns, can influence body image. While body image can change at different life stages and in response to various triggers, practicing self-acceptance and a body-positive mindset can help maintain a more stable sense of positive body image.
Is body image the same as self-esteem?
Body image and self-esteem are often related, but they are distinct concepts. Self-esteem is a broader term that can be shaped by a number of factors outside of body image, including one's functioning at school or in the workplace; it refers to one's capacity to handle various life challenges. Poor body image can be one way in which one's self-esteem is reduced. Reduced self-esteem as a result of poor body image can cause individuals to feel negative about their appearance, withdraw from social interactions, and/or rely on harmful behaviors as a coping mechanism. A "body positive" approach to body image therapy is therefore often used to encourage a more positive view of one's self and thus encourage better self-esteem.
What type of therapy is best to foster a positive body image?
The type of therapy best suited to improve body image depends on each person, as there is not a single therapy specific to body image improvement. That said, many individuals with poor body image benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based therapy. CBT can be used to help challenge distorted or negative thoughts about one's body, while ACT and mindfulness practices can facilitate a more positive body image through self-acceptance and identification of one's personal strengths. Regardless of treatment type, clients should look for body image therapists who encourage the development of a sense of self outside of their external appearance and help clients reduce unwanted behaviors developed as a result of poor self-esteem, such as dieting or disordered eating patterns.
