I enjoy working with Children and Adolescents. I recognize the value of guiding and helping parents in their goal of improving their family relationships, utilizing play therapy and other psychodynamic techniques and interventions. I help children and adolescents to express their emotions and reactions to challenges in their lives. Families play an essential role in children's healing processes. The interaction between children's problems and their families is always complex. Play therapy helps in multiple Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Disorders.

In therapy we are not trying to fix ourselves, we instead learn how to co-exist, practice self-compassion, and broaden our perspective. Starting therapy can be challenging and can bring up many things that we spend a lot of time and energy avoiding.
I will try my best to create a non-judgmental and safe space for you to process what is going on in your life. My approach is trauma-informed and mindfulness-based. I am trained in EMDR and incorporate part-work and somatic approaches in therapy sessions. The space I offer in therapy is queer-affirming.

I strive to guide clients toward empowerment by helping you clarify your core values, gain insight into your life, and discover meaning that resonates deeply with you. People with good mental health tend to have a strong identity & sense of purpose: a clear understanding of who they are and what is important to them. Emotions focus our attention and cause us to address situations in our world. Each of us is a fully integrated being with mind and body in constant reciprocal communication, and this is why somatic (body) techniques can be calming to the mind.

Kasen is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and certified Art Therapist (ATR).
Welcome, I'm Kasen Anderson, and I look forward to connecting with you! As I get to know someone, I use a person centered approach, which is a collaborative effort where I see you as the expert on your life and look for your feedback on what is best for you. I often check-in with those I serve to make sure we are on a positive path, and I can change my evidence-based approach to best fit your needs. I strive to build a foundation of trust with those I serve, so that we can create a safe environment to promote healing. I don't subscribe to one approach fitting everyone. We all need to be handled with care.

Art Therapy
How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
