In the nearly 20 years I’ve spent working in the field of mental health and trauma, I’ve deeply appreciated the honor given to me when being invited on the healing journey of a survivor. I believe a strong therapeutic alliance of empathy, compassion, and hope is the key to working together to address the challenges inherent in healing from traumatic wounds. I work with a strong stance of empathy that is directed and guided by various evidenced-based modalities as well as the most recent research in the neuroscience of trauma.

Though raised in Kansas, I received my Bachelor’s in Nursing from the University of Missouri in Columbia (Go Tigers!). I have been working in health care for over 15 years including time in intensive care, pediatrics, adolescent medicine, emergency medicine, psychiatry, and addiction medicine. I received my Master’s Degree from Simmons University in Boston, MA and am board certified in both family medicine and addiction medicine with a speciality in psychiatry for all ages. I have experience working with adults with anxiety, depression, ADHD, relationship issues, identity development, life transitions, and stress management. I am currently accepting new clients at the Lawrence and Leawood offices! I understand that everyone is struggling in some capacity to heal from past hurts, process life transitions, or learn how to feel confident about oneself. I enjoy working with teens, college-aged young adults, and adults. I have experience working with clients who experience anxiety, depression, self-harm, low-self esteem/confidence issues, and trauma.

I am an Osteopathic Physician board certified in Family Medicine with certification in Medical Acupuncture. I am very excited to offer Acupuncture in my private practice in historic downtown Lawrence, Kansas.

Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional. Those, haunted by unshakable living memories, suffering countless sleepless nights, or experiencing unexplainable panic reactions that no one understands, need not just exist and simply survive in a distorted reality where the past is still present. Too many times those who just don't get it urge you to "just get over it." Puzzled friends and family can become exhausted when all of their efforts to help fail to make enough of a difference. Frustration can grow into blaming anger, which just adds more layers of misery and self-recrimination.
