I am a licensed psychologist with over 20 years of experience. In therapy, I work to provide a safe and relaxed setting which allows for a clear review and discussion of past events. In a positive atmosphere where self-esteem is enhanced, a person is more likely to develop a new understanding of their situation and identify effective solutions.

Most clients seek out therapy because something or possibly many things aren't feeling good or working out well in their lives. They are looking for healing, for worth, for growth, for change. They need a safe and trusting person and an environment where they can feel heard, can process, feel, collaborate, make sense of, and make changes to improve their lives. They are looking for someone to listen and engage without judgement but also to challenge them when necessary. Therapy is about a collaborative relationship that allows a person to open their heart and their mind to healing.

"I work with each client to develop a treatment approach that meets their goals and individual requirements. I believe that people are more than a diagnosis or static label and my work places an emphasis on the person with a challenge rather than simply focus on the challenge alone. The therapeutic process is more than helping a person to develop positive thinking or an optimistic attitude, but involves helping the person gain an understanding of how they can approach the world to obtain the greatest satisfaction from their relationships, their work and their life in general."

Are you concerned with an adult child, sibling or partner's behaviors? I was in a relationship with a partner who exhibited narcissistic traits.
Are you feeling frustrated and in a toxic or disrespectful relationship? Is your relationship filled with emotionally draining accusations and confusion? Does your loved one swing from being kind to ill-tempered? Do you “sugar-coat” and rationalize their behavior? Narcissistic type manipulations often include gaslighting and controlling behaviors, that cause you to question your decisions. You may be experiencing emotionally immature parents/partners who use tactics like ghosting, someone going no-contact or estrangement. I can help.

I believe that our lives are a journey, and when a client trusts me with some of their most intimate stories, I feel privileged to be part of their journey. My clients will feel genuinely heard, respected, and understood as we work towards developing self-awareness, acceptance, solutions, and coping strategies for whatever issues they are struggling with. Everyone is different and they come to therapy with a wide range of stories, concerns and goals. Goals can include processing and coping with specific issues or learning to accept and find meaning in some of the most difficult situations.

Regardless of your unique stressor, burden or anxiety, regardless of your worry and concern, regardless of your challenge or source of pain, there is hope and more than one way to address the variety of situations we encounter in life. I have had the honor to work successfully with people who live with anxiety and the various manifestations and disorders of anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and traumatic experiences...both small and large, some of those experiences being obvious and some not so obvious.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists

What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?

Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.

How do therapists treat NPD?

By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.

Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?

Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.

How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?

It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
