Though I have been working with elementary kids for the last several years, I enjoy working with all ages. I am open to working with people who have any number of concerns, including anxiety, depression , grief & loss, everyday issues, and more. I am open minded and believe that the participant holds the best judgement regarding their wants and needs. You, as the participant, know your goals. I am here to help you help yourself in achieving those goals. Social Justice is an important aspect of the NASW Code of Ethics. Because of this, I believe in working with marginalized folks to help them overcome societal barriers.

Areas of focus in therapy may include symptoms of depression , chronic worry, trauma, relationship issues, transitional stress, and adjustment problems.
Life’s challenges often feel overwhelming and prevent us from focusing on the areas of life that we value most. Feelings of worry, fatigue, and emotional disconnection can take the place of joy and meaning. In therapy you can expect to better understand the emotional challenges that keep you stuck, and collaborate on a personalized plan for addressing these challenges. We will carefully consider the strengths and abilities that have allowed you to persevere through difficult times in the past, and work to optimize how these strengths can help you move forward.

The people I see want to enjoy their lives and respond with confidence to what's happening in their lives. Enjoying life is a consequence of seeing ourselves and our life as consistent with who and how we want to be. Anxiety and depression are common human experiences that easily distract us from healthy, helpful ways of being. I'm a licensed psychologist in Lawrence and I see individual adults with anxiety, depression , substance use, OCD, and chronic health conditions (including chronic pain). I also see individuals living successful lives who would like to experience a more rewarding life with less stress. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally.

I work with individuals ages 14 and up on various life issues including anxiety, depression , and more.
There is a Swedish proverb that reads, “shared joy is double joy; shared sorrow is half sorrow”. At some point in our lives, everyone needs someone to create space for them. A space to celebrate their joy. A space for their sorrow to be gently held. I believe therapy can be that place for you. Through counseling you can become a happier, healthier version of yourself with time, effort, and support. Showing up for yourself is perhaps one of the best gifts you can ever give yourself and it can also be intimidating to take that first step. Know that you are not alone.

I have focused, in my work, on the treatment of anxiety, depression , grief, interpersonal problems, and addiction.
One of the purposes in life is to be happy and live a good life. However, daily living involves struggles and there are some difficulties and aspects of life that are inherently painful and hard to cope with. Psychotherapy is a useful way for many people to address and work on personal problems and, in so doing, create a better quality of living for themselves. I have great respect for clients who have the courage to face problems and I welcome you to call me to schedule an appointment.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
