Are you struggling with relational issues, chronic illness, work/life stress, a mental illness, infertility, divorce, anxiety, depression? Life, always seems to have a lot more in store than we want or feel we can handle at any given time, it seems. Navigating all of the curves some times roadblocks can be overwhelming and you may find that you need help processing and maneuvering what's coming at you. The need for a safe space to be yourself, ugly cry, and be emotionally vulnerable. Everyone and every place is not always equipped to handle what our needs are in those moments, but I hope to provide that space for you.

I work with individuals feeling stuck in old patterns or stress, who are ready to change. Change can feel vulnerable, but it is brave and often where healing starts. You are the expert in your journey and I am honored to be a supportive witness. I incorporate mindfulness techniques, “being with things the way they are”. I also use somatic experiencing to help individuals feel safer in their bodies. Selectively, I incorporate EMDR with clients who express readiness for reprocessing difficult experiences. It is a privilege to support others' journey back to themselves.

I believe a positive relationship with your therapist is one of the most important factors in the success of treatment. I ask you to bring an open mind and commitment to your journey to each session. Respecting where the individual is in their own process as well as respect for the individual who walks through the door, is of up most importance to me. Giving yourself permission to trust the process of therapy is a first step toward receiving positive benefits from therapy. It is an honor to for me to accompany you on your journey.

I am currently only accepting new clients for Assessments (ADHD, learning disabilities, Autism, mood disorders, etc). Do you feel stuck, or at an impasse in your current life? Perhaps the use of a substance or a behavior has become a larger piece of your life than you wanted it to. It could be that anxiety or depression have kept you from achieving what you want, or being who you want to be. Maybe you’ve had a change in your life that’s been difficult to handle. Perhaps your child/teen is having difficulty at home or in school. I have experience working with clients of all ages, and tailor my approach to each individual.

Does it feel like life is throwing so much at you that you don't even know where to begin? Do you feel constantly overwhelmed, exhausted, and like the chaos is endless? You deserve to know that your feelings have value. Your feelings are important. And you have far more strength inside you than you even realize. It is not a weakness to seek out someone to talk to. Deciding to talk to someone about all that is going on in your life means you have self-awareness and incredible strength.

What are the most effective ways to manage medications?
One of the most effective ways a patient can manage their medications is to keep a list of each drug and dosage they take. Such a list can be helpful in keeping to their schedule and can also be something they bring to their psychiatrist or other physician so that the healthcare provider has a clear picture of what they’re taking and in what quantity. Using a pill organizer can be useful for memory and organization. Patients should discuss their medications and their effects at every appointment.

What are the risks if medications are not managed properly?
A suboptimal approach to medication management can lead to potentially harmful health outcomes. Most psychiatric drugs have side effects, and if a patient is not aware of them, they may seek additional medical help or over the counter or prescription drugs to treat the side effects, which may have its own side effects, a process called “prescription cascade.” Another risk to disorganization is that a psychiatrist without full knowledge of a patient’s regimen could prescribe a medication that should not be mixed with a patient’s existing drugs.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to get help managing their medications?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing medication management as a tool for improving their life and avoiding dangerous side effects. Offering specific examples of an individual’s failure to properly manage their medication regimen should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to break management down into parts, and there are several apps that can be used to organize which drugs are ingested, when they need to be refilled, and how they should be stored.

Are there natural treatments that can replace medications?
While there are many medications that can be vital to mental health, there are some natural lifestyle changes that can help reduce the need for drugs. Regular exercise, good sleep habits, a healthy diet, and therapy can all go a long way in symptom relief. Psychiatric medications typically treat symptoms but do not necessarily treat the cause of the condition. Many clinicians consider medications an adjunct to treatment rather than a treatment in and of itself.
