You have the capacity to live a life aligned with your core beliefs and principles, but this is often easier said than done. From traumatic events both personal and in the community, eco-anxiety, creative blocks, grief, loss, abuse, addictions, low self-esteem, there are many obstacles to name and to know on the way to a self-generative life. My role is to collaborate with you, to create a safe space, to speak frankly without judgement, and to foster a journey of self-discovery, authentic living and transformation within a complex world. "We go through life. We shed our skins. We become ourselves."- Patti Smith.

I am a behavioral health clinician who helps individuals and families understand the emotional patterns that shape their relationships. My work is rooted in attachment theory and the belief that people heal when they feel safe, and connected with others. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling disconnected, overwhelmed, or caught in cycles of conflict or withdrawal. Together, we slow things down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and build new ways of relating that feel more secure and supportive. My style is calm, steady, and deeply collaborative.

A turbulent airplane ride demands that you put your oxygen mask on first. But many of us carry life’s weight in silent endurance, operating under a rigid blueprint of what strength is supposed to look like. This is especially true for men and individuals within communities of color, where survival has meant keeping your guard up. Choosing therapy isn’t a weakness; it is putting on your oxygen mask so you can take care of yourself first. Whether you are navigating past trauma, the loops of OCD, depression, or daily anxiety, we will look beneath the surface to strengthen your sense of self.

Accepting New Clients. We tend to carry pains from previous relationships into the present. This can affect the way you are a friend, lover, child, parent, etc. Let's dig deep. Identifying your attachment style can lead to security and effective communication. This allows for successful relationships and healing of broken connections. It also matters what we say to and about ourselves. How often do you "should" yourself? Do you take into consideration how heavy that word can be on your daily choices? We will work on healing your inner self by rebuilding self-esteem.

Parenting a child with baffling and challenging behaviors can be lonely and isolating. When I adopted my own children, I just wanted to be a mom. I thought that love was enough. The reality is, these children have suffered enormous loss and trauma and often display challenging behaviors. I am blessed that I am able to walk alongside families on their path to healing and share what I have learned. I have been a pediatric critical care nurse for 19 years. I have spent my career helping children and their families during what was most likely one of the most challenging and stressful times in their lives.

Hoarding Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for hoarding?
Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) has been well-studied in the treatment of hoarding. This type of therapy includes changing beliefs surrounding possessions, as well as learning how to discard items and reduce acquisitions. The hoarder may also gain much-needed organizational skills. Another useful therapy may be compassion-focused therapy, which can address emotion regulation and negative self-perception.

How long does therapy for hoarding take?
Although treatment can vary, most people demonstrate improvement after 23 sessions, with some showing improvement after just a few sessions. Researchers have developed a 26-session cognitive behavioral program. People who hoard may need “maintenance” sessions over the years if the problem arises repeatedly.

Are there medications for hoarding?
The more commonly-prescribed medications for hoarding are including antidepressants, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). This can include drugs such as venlafaxine and paroxetine. And because hoarding disorder is related to obsessive-compulsive disorder, medications for OCD, such as clomipramine, may be effective for hoarding as well.

Can hoarding come back after treatment?
Hoarding is a chronic disorder and it can last throughout an individual’s lifetime. Regularly checking in with a psychotherapist can help manage symptoms long-term. A good therapist will help the person learn needed skills including decision-making, organization, and stress reduction. The patient will gain a better perspective and the need to cling to useless items will lessen.
