Reaching out is hard and you are on the way to taking your first steps. As a clinician, I recognize the importance of collaboration and the impact it can have on our well-being. Life, indeed, presents its share of difficulties, and having a safe space to explore those challenges is crucial. Unbiased and non-judgmental support is essential, especially when we tend to be overly critical of ourselves. It’s common to feel like some problems are beyond our control, but together, we can navigate them. Whether the issues are big or small, I’m here to join forces with you, working toward your goals and uncovering the possibilities.

I’m a mental health therapist in the states of Missouri and Kansas with 13+ years of experience providing support to individuals and their families in addressing their mental health and wellness. I seek to provide an empathetic, affirming and inclusive space for all that need help to work through the barriers in pursuing a life worth living. Often this can look like identifying and addressing “stuck points” that can impact our perception of self, others and the world and contribute to anxiety, feelings of sadness and struggles with self-worth as well as concerns with a sense of safety and security in an uncertain world.

Our emotions are a part of our lives, whether we want them to be or not. Struggling with emotions can lead to a wide variety of mental health difficulties. Your experience may be a numbing of emotions, which can lead to depression, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or lack of drive. Or you may experience overwhelming emotions, which can lead to anxiety, PTSD, trauma responses, grief, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, or eating disorder behaviors. Either way, becoming whole-hearted and getting into good relationship with your emotions can lead to emotional relief and a more enjoyable and fulfilling life.

“Peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is, rather than as you think it should be” Wayne Dyer. Do you ever feel like you're not actually living your life? Are you too stuck in your own mind with worry, regret or doubt? Maybe past experiences are getting in your way. Causing you to form negative beliefs about yourself. Leading to perfectionism, frustration, self-judgement and feeling depleted. Do you get stuck in cycles overthinking the past or fearing the future? Making it difficult to move forward. Are you actually missing out on what being alive truly means and the experiences it has to offer?

We have received training in evidence-based treatments, including Exposure Response and Prevention ( ERP) therapy—the gold standard treatment for OCD.
I've always been interested in mental health and how the brain operates in response to certain triggers. The most gratifying part of my job is helping others become their best selves. I treat OCD with compassion and patience. It's important to communicate and work together to improve symptoms. At NOCD, my team and I provide personalized and effective specialized treatment for OCD and related conditions, such as BFRBs (including skin-picking, nail-biting, and hair-pulling). Our understanding of the nuances of these conditions enables us to diagnose and treat them properly.

We have received intensive training in Exposure Response and Prevention Therapy ( ERP)—the gold standard treatment for OCD.
At the core, I approach our work in therapy as a partner and collaborator. I don't profess to know any member better than they know themselves.OCD often puts very challenging material in people’s minds, leading to thoughts that can be embarrassing and shameful. However, I am neither shocked nor judgmental about what comes up for people. I like to remind members that OCD attacks what is most precious to them and that their thoughts are not who they are. At NOCD, my team and I specialize in providing evidence-based treatment for people with OCD. Our understanding of the nuances of OCD enables us to properly diagnose and treat it.

I see counseling as a trusted partnership, and utilize a trauma-informed, multiculturally competent Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach as well as Exposure and Response Prevention ( ERP) therapy, the gold standard for OCD treatment.
We could all use a little grace as we venture on our mental health journey, and often don't treat ourselves with the same compassion we gift to others. In counseling, we will also focus on realizing and growing your own personal values and the power of self-compassion. Together, I hope to help you realize your own strength and empower you in your recovery.

Working collaboratively with the client, I specifically enjoy utilizing person centered therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and ERP to reach treatment goals and ultimately live and thrive authentically in the world.
ACCEPTIng new virtual KS clients only! I'm wildly passionate about serving mamas with PMADs (perinatal mood and anxiety disorders). Many women go through very challenging and unique experiences during this time and I'm here to support them through this season. I believe wholeheartedly that women can grow THROUGH these experiences and come out thriving as strong AND happy mamas. I also enjoy helping folks not in the perinatal period dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, stress, grief, and, my favorite jam-OCD and PPOCD. I LOVE helping people take THEIR lives back from OCD and get back in the driver's set!

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists

Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?

Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?

Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?

While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?

The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
