For OCD, I specialize in CBT with Exposure and Response Prevention ( ERP).
I specialize in OCD and sex therapy, and where the two overlap. I work with obsessive themes of all kinds— from germs to relationships and existential concerns. But if you’re anxious about the types of thoughts you’d prefer to never tell another living soul— like hurting people, pedophilia, sexual orientation, incest…that sort of thing— I’m definitely the right therapist. That stuff is my speciality. You’ll be surprised how easy it will be to talk to me about it.

Our emotions are a part of our lives, and they can not disappear or be ignored. Struggling with emotions can lead to a wide variety of mental health difficulties. Your experience may be a numbing of emotions, which can lead to depression, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or lack of drive. Or you may experience overwhelming emotions, which can lead to anxiety, PTSD, trauma responses, grief, panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive behaviors, or eating disorder behaviors. Either way, becoming whole-hearted and getting into good relationship with your emotions can lead to emotional relief and a more enjoyable and fulfilling life.

“Peace is the result of retraining your mind to process life as it is, rather than as you think it should be” -Wayne Dyer. Do you ever feel like you're not actually living your life? Are you too stuck in your own mind with worry, regret or doubt? Maybe past experiences are getting in your way. Causing you to form negative beliefs about yourself. Leading to perfectionism, frustration, self-judgement and feeling depleted. Do you get stuck in cycles overthinking the past or fearing the future? Making it difficult to move forward. Are you actually missing out on what being alive truly means and the experiences it has to offer?

Life, indeed, presents its share of difficulties, and having a safe space to explore those challenges is crucial. Unbiased and non-judgmental support is essential, especially when we tend to be overly critical of ourselves. It’s common to feel like some problems are beyond our control, but together, we can navigate them. Whether the issues are big or small, I’m here to join forces with you, working toward your goals and uncovering the possibilities.

Our ability to experience wellness is deeply tied to our thoughts, beliefs, and choices. When life overloads and overwhelms us, emotional and behavioral problems often emerge. We feel stuck, discouraged, angry, or scared. But we can also discover and develop new strengths and resources to equip us to effectively cope with the challenges of life. As a psychologist with a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, it is my privilege to help others on their journey to wellness. I work with adults age 18 and over and have expertise addressing a broad range of problems, including anxiety, depression, anger, poor self-image, and addiction.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) Therapists
Do I need exposure and response prevention therapy?
Many clients decide to seek help for obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors when these symptoms are distressing enough to disrupt everyday life. Any thoughts or behaviors that cause friction in close relationships are also worth addressing. In addition, the client’s symptoms don’t have to be severe for them to benefit from ERP therapy.

Is exposure and response prevention therapy part of cognitive behavioral therapy?
Exposure and response prevention is one specific type of CBT that focuses on behavioral change in response to triggering stimuli. It is related to exposure therapy but adds an additional component of preventing compulsive and harmful responses.

How long does exposure and response prevention therapy take?
While every patient is different, exposure and response prevention therapy typically lasts around 12 sessions, although some treatments can take longer. A therapist will determine if the treatment is complete based on how the client faces their fears, particularly the strongest ones. When a client feels less anxiety about stimuli that once evoked terror or distress, that is generally an indication that they are nearing the end of ERP therapy.

What are the limitations of exposure and response prevention therapy?
The most common pitfalls of exposure and response prevention therapy include not addressing a client’s core fears, allowing the client to avoid their most distressing stimuli, and using imaginary exposure when the client requires real-life exposure (and vice versa). ERP therapy is most effective when the client commits to the full course of treatment; if the client stops early or doesn’t practice what they have learned outside of therapy sessions, they are less likely to have successful outcomes.
