I incorporate mindfulness skills, art, sand tray and humor in session.
Hello there! Life has felt overwhelming for many of us these past few years, and I'm so happy you are here looking for some extra support. Therapy can provide a nonjudgmental and objective space to help process the stressors of life. You may be here because you are dealing with things like emotional detachment, insomnia, nightmares, avoidance, irritability, depression, and intrusive thoughts (which can all be reactions to painful life events). Our brains can and do heal just like other parts of our bodies, and that healing can have big impacts on not only ourselves but those we love.

Life can be messy at times. We can get overwhelmed by everyday events, unexpected surprises-both good and not so good- and the expectations of others around us. In some cases, we're still dealing with the past and can't even begin to solve today's issues.

Anxiety, depression, hurt from relationships, and current stressors can make day-to-day life feel like quicksand. You're unable to move forward to the life and freedom you want no matter how hard you try. You may feel confused and overwhelmed, not knowing what will help or where to start. Or maybe you have some ideas of what needs to change, but can't understand why you can't make it happen. Sometimes all we need are the right tools and someone who listens with caring and empathy to help us really move forward in a lasting way.

From a young age I have known that I wanted to be in a helping profession. I have long been fascinated by the power and mystery of the mind and its connection to our bodies. In college, I realized social work was the discipline for me and I avidly pursued a clinical track at the University of Kansas. I am particularly passionate about working with children of all ages and find immense joy in connecting younger ones via their language, which is play.

Hi there, I'm Kelly. I look forward to meeting you wherever you are in your life journey. Our life journey can at times feel like an endless mountain climb. Sometimes we fail to see the beauty in the climb due to the overwhelming extra weight in our backpacks. Are you worried about your ability to keep meaningful relationships? Do you want to learn how to put up boundaries? Are you trying to juggle a new relationship? Are the joys and stress of becoming a new parent feeling too overwhelming? Are you concerned if people will like you if they knew the real you?

I graduated with a dual degree in art therapy & clinical counseling.
I really enjoy working with the young adult population & people experiencing difficulty accepting uncertainty & change. I enjoy assisting others navigate stressors impacting the quality life desired. One of my strengths involve believing in you and your potential while encouraging you to challenge yourself, your mindsets, explore new narratives, and take steps toward your true potential. I strongly believe that learning and practicing self-compassion is vital to self-worth and it's power to heal past wounds. As a person who has struggled with anxiety through life, I love to help others overcome fears and manage anxiety symptoms.

Everyone is different and they come to therapy with a wide range of stories, concerns and goals. Goals can include processing and coping with specific issues or learning to accept and find meaning in some of the most difficult situations.

Welcome, I'm Kasen Anderson, and I look forward to connecting with you! As I get to know someone, I use a person centered approach, which is a collaborative effort where I see you as the expert on your life and look for your feedback on what is best for you. I often check-in with those I serve to make sure we are on a positive path, and I can change my evidence-based approach to best fit your needs. I strive to build a foundation of trust with those I serve, so that we can create a safe environment to promote healing. I don't subscribe to one approach fitting everyone. We all need to be handled with care.

As an art therapist with over 16 years of counseling experience, I use art therapy and EMDR to help you reconnect with your inner self, explore emotions safely, and build new coping skills.
You’re feeling stuck—and traditional talk therapy just isn’t cutting it. You’ve tried to push through the anxiety, the weight of past trauma, or the stress of navigating your identity in a world that doesn’t always understand. You’re ready for change, but you need a different approach—one that taps into something deeper than words. I specialize in working with people who are motivated to heal, grow, and do the work to create meaningful change. Whether you're dealing with chronic anxiety, recovering from trauma, or processing the complexities of being LGBTQ+, I offer a creative, nontraditional path forward.

Art Therapy

How does art therapy work?

The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?

Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?

The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?

Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
