It's often difficult to reach out for help when you most need it, and it can be hard to speak with someone you've never met about personal issues. On the other hand, it can be easier to do with a person who is a trained, neutral professional. I can be objective and understanding in a way that well-meaning friends and family often cannot. My work with couples, individual adults including seniors, or the younger population, begins in a friendly, professional manner whereby we move towards knowing each other better. A rapport between us is essential in accomplishing our work.
After identifying what you want/need to tackle, my approach to the process is to provide a delicate balance of support and challenge, aimed at helping you face and resolve issues with which you are struggling. I do find as well, that a bit of humor goes a long way.
My goal is to help explore your thoughts and feelings to better know what's behind them. This often results in your feeling better when you leave my office than when you came in. Creating food for thought, continuing work on your own...next session we can again move forward.
