Life can be messy, disappointing, disorienting, and challenging at times. John Lennon said, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” Isn’t that the truth? Sometimes difficulties are the result of our own choices, sometimes the result of another’s choices, and sometimes the result of the hand life dealt us. No matter the source of your difficulties, healing and growth are possible. As Martin Luther King Jr once stated, “If you can’t fly, then run. If you can’t run, then walk. If you can’t walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”
I believe we all do the best we can with what we know. Counseling can provide a way to learn a new way of approaching the challenges one faces and open the doors for better outcomes. I use a person-centered approach to therapy where the client and I work collaboratively to meet the client’s specific needs and goals.
My life experiences have acquainted me with grief, loss, betrayal, abuse, depression, and anxiety. I have learned firsthand how hardships can be a catalyst for change. My most challenging life experiences have been my greatest teachers, who have led me to study, grow, and rise from the ashes to become who I am today.
