I am a Korean and English speaking Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 20 years of experience in the field of mental health, relationship and parenting children. In my practice I work with individuals, couples, and families.

We want to welcome clients who might be new to therapy but have struggled for a long time with depression, anxiety, family conflict or other mental health issues. You might have avoided therapy because of stigma or misconceptions. You feel overwhelmed at times and feel that now is the time to seek help. We can speak to anyone living in New Jersey and Pennsylvania through the convenience of tele-therapy. I have experience working in Community-Based, Outpatient, and hospital mental health settings as a licensed professional counselor. I am currently at Eastern University for a Doctor of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy studies for a further degree. I have a passion for working with teens, adults, and older adults to assist them in developing and finding healthy coping skills when dealing with stressors, including life transitions. I specialize in helping adult individuals recover from trauma and addiction with talk therapy and EMDR. I call myself as a relationship therapist because I value a relationship and want to help people to improve their relationship. I have learned that when people struggle with relationship with their family or intimate part, they often experience various psychological symptoms and emotional distress, such as depression, anxiety, sadness, and helpless feelings.

Dr. Kim is a bilingual (Korean/English) clinical neuropsychologist and clinical psychologist. He has a private practice in Englewood. He works as a clinical director of Clinical Psychology Externship program in Korean Medical Program, Holy Name MC in Teaneck. He received his PhD in clinical psychology from Yeshiva University. He completed a clinical fellowship in Clinical Psychology at Yale University, Psychiatry Dept, and a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the Nathan Kline Institute (NKI) for Psychiatric Research, which is affiliated with the NY State Office of Mental Health.

I specialize in treating relational difficulties, depression, anxiety, trauma (emotional, physical, and sexual abuse and neglect), as well as stress and trauma related to immigration, racial and ethnic identity, as well as other identity issues. My approach to therapy is integrative, utilizing elements from various modalities, such as psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT).

We fear being vulnerable. We run from difficult feelings. We seek approval of others. We feel ashamed of our emotional baggage. Worst part is, we often try to hide these under our mask because of shame, fear, and anxiety. But hiding in shame only makes us feel worse about ourselves with isolation, emptiness, and a sense of self-hatred. In my practice, I support my clients to feel accepted, validated with no judgement. To promote healing and growth, I sit through difficult emotions until self-acceptance and self-compassion is communicated and received in a safe space.
