The effect of traumatic stress... that is very likely what you are experiencing. A traumatic experience followed by feelings of anxiety and depression. But that's not all. You're on edge and irritable, avoiding any reminder of the incident, and getting lost in your thoughts. Your hope was that you could simply forget what happened and move forward. Instead, you feel as if you are drowning. Whether the incident was recent of from long ago, it makes no difference. The trauma lives on, whirring in the background of your mind. You need to regain a sense of control, a sense of peace. You need a new strategy for coping with what happened.
Twice tragically bereaved, I understand a bit about the experience of traumatic stress. It can be overwhelming. With the right approach, symptoms do ease up. My approach is to address the most pressing symptoms first. Then, we will re-story the incident, restore a sense of safety and control, and return to enjoying life's activities.
You were created for a definite purpose. My goal is to help you get back on the road to accomplishing what you were created for.
