I enjoy working with people of all ages. My background is in education so I have spent most of my time with children and adolescents. But people deal with the same issues - conflict resolution, unresolved trauma, anxiety/stress, depression, suicide ideation, etc. Children are a bit less complicated because they see things in black and white, and they adjust to their environment a bit more quickly than adults. However, no matter the age, most people want to know they are safe and someone cares about what they need. When those two things are present, helping them navigate the twists and turns of mental health is much easier.
For children, I enjoy play therapy because it is the best way to communicate with them, especially for those under age 5. As for adults, I have used CBT, Solution-focused and Adlerian (my personal favorite), but I prefer to modify the treatment plan according to the client's needs. One size does not fit all in mental health. It's best to let the client lead.
You'll quickly see I do not have a judgmental bone in my body. With age comes understanding. I look at a client and see someone who needs help, not a problem to fix.
