I have over 30 years working in mental health and addiction. I work with individuals, couples, families, adolescents dealing with addiction, grief/loss, depression, anxiety, communication, boundaries, parenting, crisis intervention, trauma, relationship issues, women's issues, LGBLTQ+, work life issues and life transitions. I am strength based in my approach and strive to assist people to empower themselves and to have the courage to change the things they can. I have completed the three year intensive training in Somatic Experiencing (SE) qualifying me as a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.
SE is a approach to healing from trauma. It begins with the understanding that trauma occurs first in our body and instincts, then spreading to our minds, emotions and spirits. Trauma causes survival responses to get stuck, leaving you feeling overwhelmed and threatened. You may experience anxiety, depression, anger,sleep difficulties and difficultly enjoying relationships.
When we discharge residual survival energy we are no longer frozen in fear. We begin to feel reconnected and are no longer trapped by events of the past. We come to experience a new lease in life with a sense of peace, flexibility and connectedness. SE is gentle, respectful, and does not require processing events.
