Psychological assessment is a structured, formal process designed to provide insight into an individual’s unique strengths and areas of difficulty. Assessment allows for a comprehensive understanding of cognitive, executive, adaptive, social, behavioral, personality, and emotional functioning. Cognitive abilities include learning, thinking, reasoning, memory, problem-solving, decision-making, and attention. Psychological assessment is often used for diagnostic clarification, such as ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, mood disorders, and/or learning disabilities, as well as for differential diagnosis and treatment planning.
I approach assessment and testing using a collaborative assessment model. In a confidential and supportive environment, individuals and families begin with an interview to identify specific concerns, goals, and questions to be addressed. A personalized battery of research-based measures is then selected based on the individual’s needs and assessment goals.
Most evaluations are completed within four to eight weeks. At the conclusion of the assessment, a feedback session is held to review the results and answer questions. Clients receive a comprehensive written report along with specific, practical recommendations to support school, work, medical care, and/or mental health treatment.
