From years of working with severe trauma, dissociation, and psychosis, I learned that we all strive to be in relationship, but the stress of relationships can also cause trauma, dissociation, and psychosis. When we can't make our relationships work, we say and do things we don't want to, and we can feel - and seem - "crazy." I learned that the best way to sustainably resolve the problems we confront in ourselves is to focus on the problems between people, rather than look for something "wrong" with people that we can "fix."

My partner Louisa and I like to work as a team. This stems from the idea that the basic unit of human life IS the relationship, rather than any one "authority." We also work one-on-one when appropriate, but maintain a systemic, interpersonal (rather than pathologizing) perspective.

We use mindfulness-, somatic-, trauma-informed approaches, and a dialogical, narrative, & collaborative philosophy. We use reflecting practice (per Tom Anderson). We find our different styles means one of us is likely to connect with a client. We love what we do: it is the essence of being human.

Kermit Cole's Groups

Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy

We draw on Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) as well as Relapse Prevention (MBCT). Both were built on the eight-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program, and have shown great results in resolving a range of issues, from depression to addiction. We love leading the groups because by the end of them people find that they are dealing with the same issues humans around the world have dealt with throughout time: craving, clinging, grasping, fear, and the need for connection. Which is why these practices have stood the test of time.
