Sometimes we just feel stuck: stuck in the past, in a bad relationship, or not able to make a decision. This could have its origins in a childhood trauma or a series of events that chipped away at self esteem over a long period of time. I assist clients in reprocessing past events to perceive them in a less threatening or emotionally painful way. I believe that we already have the solutions to all our problems, but sometimes they are buried deeply. I am willing to be honest as well supportive while helping clients reveal the answers within themselves.
I treat adolescents as well as adults. Many adolescents experience depression, behavioral problems, anxiety, social issues and/or school problems. I work with the adolescent as my main client and bring in family members as needed. Most problems can be resolved by coaching family members to communicate more effectively.
In addition to traditional Cognitive Behavioral techniques, I am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting and parts work. These modalities have been proven very effective with trauma. I also employ mindfulness techniques as well as expressive therapies such as art therapy, journaling and poetry.
