Sometimes using words can only paint a portion of the picture to reflect our current situation. Often I find that using other forms of expression can truly help depict the magnitude of how one may be feeling. Art therapy can be an effective tool in the therapeutic journey to bridge the gap between what is felt and what is said in sessions. In my sessions I enjoy trying to help clients understand themselves better and empower them in ways that promote healing.
I use a person-centered approach which caters to the needs of each individual to meet everyone where they are at. Art can be used as a tool, however may not be necessary for everyone. I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), trauma focused therapy, along with other creative modalities.
My goals for the sessions are to help the clients to get to the root of their presenting issue or, to just help maintain their mental health. I have experience working with children, teens, and adults with anxiety, depression, grief, self-harm, mood disorders, neurodivergence, LGBTQ+, and creative blocks.
