About
Counseling has been, and continues to be, an important part of my life and a vital reason I am who I have become. I chose counseling as a profession because I wanted to help others in the same way I have been helped over the years. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Texas at Austin in 2004 and a Master of Arts in Counseling at St. Edward’s University in 2016.
I use a non-directive style, which means that my clients choose what is the most important thing in their lives to address in that moment. I also use an non-judgemental, acceptance-based approach because when we feel the acceptance of others we are more able to put aside the harsh criticism we place on ourselves — and that is the first step towards change.
I use play therapy techniques with children - which is important because children lack the verbal language to tell us how they feel, so play becomes the language they use to process and communicate. I have also been blessed to be trained in EMDR, which is a wonderful technique to use with many client issues, most notably trauma and PTSD.
