Let me take a moment to describe the kind of person with whom I enjoy working. I'll call her Jamie. She was successful in many ways, but she had noticed a pattern in her relationships with men. When she looked back, she saw they didn't treat her with respect. Some of them were verbally abusive. Some of them were even physically abusive. They were completely erratic in their jobs. Drugs and alcohol were sometimes part of the problem, too. Jamie had decided it was time for change; for her own sake and for the sake of her young son.
We dug in and Jamie went to work. She learned about how to have healthy boundaries with herself and with others. She did some looking back to understand some of the wounds she carried and began to heal. She learned to make better choices. There was more. Jamie made changes so that she could live a life consistent with her most cherished values.
