Call me Dr. Kathy and forget that unpronounceable last name. EMDR and Brainspotting Certified. My practice is accepting new clients for mental health, trauma, and substance use issues. My Recovery Support Group is aimed at individuals who could benefit from weekly group therapy to support their recovery from drugs or alcohol, often with co-occurring disorders such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. I have worked in many clinical settings and am a contributing faculty member at Walden University, where I teach various counseling classes. I am the owner of Therapy Owls in Williamsburg, VA.

I specialize in evidence-based practices including CBT, Brainspotting, and EMDR/Flash dependent on individual needs. I continue professional development and have trained in CBT at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia and has completed several advanced-level trainings in EMDR and Brainspotting for substance abuse, trauma, and ego-state work.

Having a caring, safe, and empathetic counselor is essential. I collaborate with my clients to create an individualized treatment plan to best meet their therapeutic goals and teach them to be their own therapists. Led by Dr. Kathy Atanasov, this group is geared toward individuals looking for a weekly group to support and maintain their sobriety and possible co-occurring issues such as anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. This small recovery support group meets in-person Tuesday nights 5:45 - 7:45 pm. Members become family. Clients must be in recovery and have a therapist they can see should they need individual support. Interested members must have an intake with Dr. Atanasov for pre-approval to the group. $25 self-pay fee or insurance accepted upon approval.
