I work collaboratively with adults and families across the lifespan to co-create a therapeutic relationship that helps them to recognize behavior and thinking that no longer works and discover new options for living. Using a relational, non-judgmental and compassionate approach, I help people who are navigating difficult life transitions, struggling with relationships, working through grief and loss and adjusting to living with physical or mental illnesses, including addictions and co-occurring disorders. I utilize sand tray therapy and expressive arts in my work.
In an effort to deal with inner pain, people frequently resort to alcohol and drugs of abuse. I view addiction not as an intrinsic mental or moral failing but as a symptom of underlying environmental and/or developmental trauma and I view relapse as an opportunity to explore underlying issues including undiagnosed mental illness.
It takes courage to reach out for help when you are feeling vulnerable and at your lowest ebb, but this is the first step in your healing process. My goal is to empower you to find your own inner strengths and abilities, to envision new possibilities for living and to discover there is hope for real change.
