Are you committed to “showing up”? You may have difficulty finding independence in your unhealthy family dynamics and are working on finding a sense of self outside your relationships. You have dealt with anxiety and negative thoughts and no longer want these issues to hold you back.
I would affirm the client and build rapport. I use psychoeducation to help clients understand the ways in which their family dynamics have shaped the way they build relationships. I use a CBT approach to aid in dealing with anxious thoughts. I also aid in identifying practical goals towards independence and future planning.
