I work with individuals and couples offering existential therapy to help you to live more fully and find new ways to face your predicaments paradoxes and conflicts. Together we can explore your life and relationships to discover ways in which you can live more authentically, in alignment with your values. I trained and worked in England before moving to Boulder in 2010. I have over 20 years experience as a therapist; I bring that with me as I meet each new individual or couple. I will help you describe, clarify and unravel your relationship to the world, your self and other people. We do not have to start with your childhood.

I have worked with many different issues including identity, sexual & domestic abuse, adoption, depression, anxiety, relationships and transitions. At times, many people live with uncertainty and anxiety about life; you do not have to bear it alone. Sometimes exploring your story with someone else can be enough. I will help you tell or write your story.

As an existential therapists I am curious about your subjective experience and being. Our conversations will explore your story. Writing can sometimes help you find your voice - sometimes people can write before they can speak. I am also a trained journal therapist, providing structure, pacing and containment that will lead to healing, insight and growth.

Kate Thompson Therapy's Groups

Third Eye: Expressive writing for women healers

Expressive writing offers a way in to self-supervision & reflective practice for busy people. This group is for helping and healing professionals: including therapists, healers, coaches, health professionals & therapeutic writing facilitators Join a small group of fellow practitioners and begin to develop new means of self-support and self-care by activating your creativity and reflective capacity. We use poetry, journal writing techniques (such as Captured Moments, unsent letters, dialogues, perspectives) and other expressive writing prompts to reflect on our work and our own lives. No prior writing experience is necessary. Sharing is an opportunity, never an obligation.

Adult Adoptee Support Group

A group for people who were adopted at any age. Adoption-related issues can crop up throughout the lifespan. Often they go unrecognised; this group will help you explore how they affect you and help you make sense of your feelings. You will find community and support as you share your experience and tell your story with others. We look at relationships in family and work settings, self-esteem, transitions and recurring patterns in your life. Kate is an adoptee herself. Sometimes expressive writing can help."We need better stories for the stories around adoption." Author Jeanette Winterson.

Expressive writing for self-supervision

Supervision is a lifelong gift available to therapists, however, self-supervision is often overlooked as a source of professional support. In this group we will use different writing techniques to examine work with clients. Good supervision places client experience at the heart of the process where the supervisor acts as the observing self - expressive writing used for self-supervision allows therapists to bring their observing self to shine a light on their work with clients and. By becoming both writer and reader of our own experience we change the scripts of therapeutic encounters and deepen our work as therapists.
