Many people find themselves acting against their own better judgment and best interests without knowing why. The focus of my practice is to help you know yourself better - your thoughts, feelings and behaviors. It's the first step towards making choices that improve the quality of your life. Once you have more awareness of why you react to certain people, places and things in ways that can feel extreme, it’s important to understand how your coping strategies, while helpful in the past, may be causing problems in the present. Then we'll work to build new coping strategies that keep you grounded and make it easier to reach your goals.
I've spent over twenty-five years counseling individuals and couples experiencing anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, depression, trauma, chronic medical illness, identity issues, substance use problems, disordered eating and anger - helping those who feel overwhelmed find solutions that work for them.
For people who struggle with addiction and other self-harming behaviors, I use IFS, Motivational Interviewing and somatic approaches to help you understand the roots and functions of these behaviors. All behaviors are purposeful and we must explore how they helped you survive in the past and how they help you cope now, for better and for worse.
