About
Hi – my name is Dr. Kleinfelter but some just call me “Dr. K.” I am a clinical psychologist based in Columbia and have worked with South Carolina’s children and families for over 30 years. I mainly serve adolescents ages 11 to 21, although I have worked with adults and may see someone who is older, depending on the circumstance. My primary specialty areas include: high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorder (hfASD) or Asperger’s Syndrome, and working with LGBTQI+ youth. But I have seen people from all walks of life. Covid has taken a toll on people's mental health; reaching out for therapeutic help is no longer uncommon.
For many years my career focus has involved assisting youth and families who are grappling with hfASD in a predominantly neurotypical world. I also am sensitive to the struggles that gay, bi, questioning, and transgender young people and their families face, within their schools and communities. I can attend school meetings for any teen, to offer advocacy.
Part of my work includes forensic consultation and evaluation services in juvenile court cases. I have worked in the family court system for over a decade, and there are multiple ways I can assist an attorney on a legal case. Please email me to schedule a free consult, so you can decide if my services are right for your child, or court case.
