I work with children 2-10 years old who need support coping with stressors in their life: family changes, grief/loss, trauma, school/peer challenges that result in symptoms of anxiety, depression or aggression. Children show us they are struggling through their behavior and my role is to help identify and unravel the feelings under the behavior. I utilize play based therapy, art therapy, and therapeutic books to validate and process feelings. Together we explore a variety of coping strategies, including sensory materials, music making and mindfulness. Treatment is individualized to each child based on age and presenting symptoms.
I provide a welcoming environment where each child is met exactly where they are in their process of coping with current stressors. I use therapeutic tools to increase a child’s ability to identify and express their feelings, as well as identifying their natural gifts in order to a build strong foundation which increases resilience.
I am a mother of 2 adult children and a grandmother to one 5 year. My experience of parenting my children has taught me so much about the uniqueness of each child, how to honor their strengths, while supporting their challenges. My background in Special Education provides an awareness of sensory integration issues and diverse learning styles.
