People often come to see me after realizing that something has shifted: life isn't as meaningful as it had once been, jobs or relationships aren't as fulfilling, or with a general sense that things could be better. Sometimes this can be tied back to a specific event, either in the recent past or long ago in childhood. Other times the cause of the suffering is inexplicable.
It's often tempting to seek a quick fix, but true healing and growth take time. I move slowly at first, building a foundational relationship upon which our work can grow. While never shying away from difficult subject matters, I will occasionally use humor to ease the conversation. Therapy isn't easy, but it shouldn't be any harder than it needs to be.
All humans need connection and failures to connect, either as children or adults, are often the cause of our problems. I am deeply and truly interested in the inner lives of everyone I work with and strongly believe that true empathic connection, slowly grown and carefully tended, can be the source of repair and rebuilding.
