The majority of my referrals come from attorneys with clients who have engaged in illegal sexual behavior, requesting a 'risk assessment' to estimate future risk which could inform sentencing. Clients also self refer, finding that they have had little success in managing their thoughts and behaviors and have had to live with the anxiety and shame of ultimate discovery. Legal consequences of problematic sexual behavior are not the only negative consequences. Intimate and family relationship dysfunction, as well as mood, work performance issues, and self worth are often negatively impacted.
I have been in private practice for 42 years providing individual and group therapy with specialized training in trauma resolution, domestic violence, substance abuse, sexual behavior problems and sex offender assessment and treatment.
In this era of internet connectedness more and more individuals are experiencing significant difficulties managing online behavior, and particularly online sexual/relationship behavior. Often clients first use the internet to manage loneliness and then 'get stuck' living a secret life that remains lonely. There is much courage needed to talk about this.
