My specializations include couples and marital counseling, individual therapy, behavioral health (i.e., the mind-body connection), mindfulness training, stress management, values/goals clarification, LGBT issues, and hypnosis. Understandably, clients want results that are both fast and lasting, so I tend to use some type of brief, solution-focused model in my work. I also have considerable experience utilizing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a method that is both quick and effective for relationship/family/parenting problems, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, chronic pain, guilt, insomnia, medical impairments, work stress, anger/resentment, smoking addiction, and many other difficult issues.
Every client's situation is unique, so treatment approaches and goals are always individualized. As a therapist since 1990, I have had the privilege of serving a diverse group of clients, empowering them to let go of hurts, manage life's inevitable stressors, heal relationships, regain health, and move forward to once again find joy and embrace life fully.
I have trained/supervised Psychology students and Psychiatry residents, given numerous workshops/seminars, and participated in research projects. I often use guided visualizations in session and teach clients self-hypnosis, deep relaxation, and mindfulness. I am currently working on a "Self-Help for Couples" book with my husband of 37 years, Dr. Ken Waldman.
