Contrary to popular opinion that can characterize therapy as designed for unhealthy or dysfunctional people, my experience and belief is that therapy is for people seeking to improve their lives and their relationships. Whether it is a relationship with ourselves, with a spouse, partner, family or friends, many of us long for better connections and more empowerment in our lives. The good news is that we can learns skills to live more satisfying lives. Research on brain plasticity validates that we can change. Research also suggests we tend to do what we have already done, whether it works or not! Therapy can change this!
I have been practicing for 30 years and am certified in Imago Relationship Therapy and EMDR. I have trained in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy and Voice Dialogue. I am a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist, working with couples and partners impacted by the trauma of sex addiction. I have trained in family of origin and trauma work with Pia Mellody.
Research consistently indicates that the working relationship you and your therapist establish will be the biggest factor contributing to success in therapy. Clients and I initially assess if I am a good fit for the goals they envision for themselves. Creation of a safe, nonjudgmental space for individuals or couples is a primary focus in my work.
