I have a passion for working with people with complex
trauma
, anxiety, depression, grief, as well as other struggles. I am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and utilize that modality in addition to traditional therapy to help people process and overcome their challenges. I use a direct, structured, and goal oriented approach while also offering hope and compassion when working with my clients. EMDR is most well known for treating
trauma
, but I have found success in treating OCD and various other phobias also.

I am a very different kind of
trauma
therapist.
A warm welcome. We all want to be seen, heard and loved for who we really are. I practice from a Somatic (body-based) heart-centered paradigm that honors all parts of us - mind, body, and energy. Most of us struggle to move beyond what is normal or comfortable for our bodies. We are full of old beliefs and symptoms that keep us from living the life we deeply desire. Our behaviors and patterns are a beautiful hodgepodge of our childhood coping mechanisms that are running on old data and gently need an upgrade! We can meet ourselves very differently when we start to see ourselves through a new lens of curiosity and compassion.

I work with clients ages six to eighteen and I help clients with emotional regulation, behavior problems, peer & family relationships, difficult transitions, anxiety & stress, self-harm, grief & loss,
trauma
, and crisis work.
Sometimes it’s hard for your child or teenager to open up to you. Under the surface, they may be struggling more than it appears. Or their outbursts make it apparent that something is not right. It takes courage to acknowledge that your child is struggling and that you are not able to resolve their issues on your own. It takes even more courage to reach out for help. I can help your child or teenager through traditional talk therapy or play therapy, using a person-centered approach to find and give help for any assessed needs. It takes a village to raise a child, so let me help you with yours.

I enjoy working with teen and adult individuals from all walks of life, but feel particularly drawn to walking alongside clients on a journey of empowerment and liberation from oppressive and unhealthy relationships and/or systems. I believe that the most healing part of therapy is the co-created space and relationship between clinical and client. My work is
trauma
-informed, and I practice from a stance of authenticity, acceptance, and warmth. I have a blended approach, regularly drawing from theories such as client-centered, CBT, narrative, attachment and social learning, transactional analysis, and restorative/embodied practices.

I have received extensive and on-going training related to
trauma
informed care and practices.
I believe services related to mental health should be as normal and attainable as those related to physical health. Science, with a personal and creative flair, should drive these services. I completed a MSW, with a concentration in mental health, from Washington University in St. Louis. During this time I was able to specialize my education and training experience to best fit the role of a mental health therapist. I am able to work with individuals ranging from five years and up, and can address most mental health needs by utilizing a variety of practice models. The role of
trauma
and traumatic stress is a special area of practice.

It takes bravery to start the journey from struggle and pain toward insight, wisdom, and healing. I am committed to assisting you in making gift to yourself and your community. We hear a lot about
post-traumatic stress
, but it's also very important to invite post-traumatic growth. If the hard knocks of life stay unaddressed - words unspoken, questions unasked, feelings unnamed and unexpressed - we lose our vitality and become limited to negative patterns. A therapeutic alliance can transform and liberate.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
