My practice is set up to serve Black, Brown, and Indigenous folkx, and is a space that celebrates Queer and Trans folkx.
My name is Caleb Stephens, and I am an Intersectional Clinician. The reality of therapy is that it is inaccessible to most, and the majority of therapists gear their therapy around themselves, and not around the needs of the client, nor the layers of identity that exist. I am not a traditional therapist, as I am also an Activist, and the majority of the work that I do is Identity work. This is about meeting you where you're at, and I'm here for it.

I identify as a Black woman, heterosexual, Cisgender, married, and I am a parent.
It is my belief that seeking help is the first indication that you are motivated and ready to make changes in your life. My purpose here is to partner with you, while empowering you, as you move through the process of change. I will help you learn to think about and address your problems in a healthier manner. Sometimes it takes the help of a mental health professional to help you take an objective look at your circumstances and empower you so that you can take the first step necessary to make those changes.

I have a considerable background working with the African American community & other communities of color, and the LGBTQ & non-binary communities.
Maybe you remember this scene from a movie; picture it, a peaceful airplane ride becomes turbulent. The plane begins losing altitude rapidly. The flight attendant urgently instructs you to "put your oxygen mask on first" before helping others. That simple, but critical statement, is just as important in our everyday lives. Remembering to take time to yourself, non selfishly, can be difficult for anyone who tends to place others' needs first. Together, we'll explore your thoughts, feelings, decisions, choices, wants, and needs. I will assist you in" finding your voice" and help you to "put your oxygen mask on first

Check out our website for more details! I became a therapist because of a void that has existed for decades. A void that allowed black and brown people to be left to find sometimes inadequate ways of dealing with real mental health issues. As you search you will find very few people that look like me that are in profession of mental health. This is unfortunate. Although my caseload is hugely diverse, what comforts my clients is I represent what in my field is lacking...a representative from a disenfranchised group of people helping to build up the individual, repairing relationships and making families whole.

As a professional of color, a minority business owner, and a black female I am well acquainted with the various tensions and anxieties that can affect people of color here in the United States.
Please Note: I do NOT Accept Insurance. Racism is tough! We all live with various levels of stress and anxiety caused by the numerous elements in our lives. But living under the constant stress, pressure, and anxiety of racism adds another level of tension to our relationships with our family, our co-workers, our community, and ourselves.

As a psychologist, I enjoy working with adults of all ages and have expertise with college students, early career professionals, women's health and well-being, and the BIPOC ( black, indigenous, people of color) community.
Sometimes the struggle in life is real. Whether it be feelings of anxiety and depression, difficulties in relationships, or struggles with self-esteem, therapy can provide a safe space for your journey to hope and healing. In this process, I encourage my clients to lean into the discomfort and joy of self-discovery and growth as they build the skills to manage life's challenges. I also offer pre-surgical bariatric assessments as well as psychological testing for ADHD, autism, learning disabilities and more for older teens and adults.

All cultures are welcome regardless of status or religion, Latinx, Mexican, Native American, African American, etc.
If you are neurodivergent (Autistic, ADHD, OCD, etc.), or gender diverse (transgender, non-binary, gender-queer, etc.), LGBTQIA+, relationship diverse (polyamory, non-monogamus, etc.), people of marginalized communities (non-white, PoC, multicultured, etc.) look no further. I believe in humanity and the human experience, and understand existing in a world that is not open to diversity and accpetance and how this leads to mental health overload. I will honor your unique culture or experience and provide you with ethical therapeutic treatment that meets your needs and culture.

What else could go wrong? Why do I keep trying? What's the use? I guess this is just how things will always be. No one understands me. I don't fit in. My family doesn't care. Relationship issues, trouble communicating, trouble processing, or still trying to find yourself? Are these questions or thoughts that you struggle with? Well, guess what? You are not the only one. So, now, Imagine yourself with a huge smile, and gut busting laugh that is authentic and genuine. Not like the ones you have faked for so long. Think of that laughter and smile, without feeling all the anxiety, depression, etc..... sounds great right?

If you are struggling with conflicts within your family or struggling with your own personal mental health, you are not alone. A case study in 2020 showed that mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, tripled in adults during the pandemic. This also includes a flare up in conflicts between couples and families. These situations can become overwhelming at times and seeking help from a counseling professional may be the hardest step to take, however, it will also be the most rewarding.

Black and African American Therapists
As an African American, why might I wish to see a therapist who is African American?
African American clients may seek out African American therapists for several reasons, foremost being a sense of cultural understanding and the possibility of shared experiences. Cultural sensitivity and context on the part of the therapist may make it easier to form a therapeutic alliance and to focus on the work of therapy without the need to explain or educate a therapist on cultural matters. It may also be empowering to work with a therapist who shares one’s racial or ethnic background. It is important to note that a therapist who demonstrates cultural sensitivity can be highly effective even if they do not share a client’s background or race.
Can clients benefit from working with a therapist who shares their race or ethnicity?
Yes, having a therapist who shares a client’s race or ethnicity is often valuable, especially if it fosters a strong therapeutic alliance between the two. While training, qualifications, and experience are always important, a strong alliance between client and therapist is a major contributor to therapeutic effectiveness. An alliance is likely to be strengthened with a therapist who has an understanding of a client’s background and perhaps also shared life experiences. It should be noted that many clients form a strong bond with their therapist regardless of their race or ethnicity. This is a personal decision, and it depends on the therapist, the client, and the connection between the two.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with African American clients?
Clients can ask therapists directly about their experience working with clients of diverse backgrounds, including with African American individuals. You may wish to inquire whether a therapist has undertaken training in cultural competence broadly, and how specifically they would ensure that their approach is sensitive to the needs of African American clients. Therapy involves honesty and trust, so it’s best for clients to share concerns about their therapist’s cultural competence at the outset. And a good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals based on the concerns you articulate.
Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?
It’s important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive because everyone comes to therapy with a unique background and set of experiences. Being aware of culture and cultural differences between people is important for understanding clients, as is coming to therapy with an open mind, recognizing that the therapist doesn’t necessarily understand everything and that the client can help guide the way.
Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?
The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
