My name is Kamryn Buchanan, and I am a PhD student in Counseling Psychology, a master's graduate, mental health advocate, and former Miss Nebraska USA 2024. My passion for counseling began through my own experiences navigating mental health challenges and longing for support during difficult times. Those experiences inspired me to become the person I once needed for others, a therapist who creates a space where clients feel seen, heard, and valued.
Over the past nine years in higher education, I have developed clinical experience working with college students at Nebraska Wesleyan University, high school students in Omaha, and adults in a university counseling clinic. My work is grounded in narrative therapy and a multicultural feminist framework, recognizing that every person's story is uniquely theirs
As a biracial woman, mental health advocate, and researcher, I am particularly passionate about understanding how systems, culture, and social experiences impact well-being. My research interests focus on the experiences of historically marginalized communities and the ways individuals overcome barriers, develop resilience, and create meaningful lives.
