Hello, I'm Kai. I'm a queer & trans/genderqueer mixed-race filpinx therapist providing telehealth throughout the state of California. I am especially passionate about working with people of color, especially those who are qtbipoc, trans, disabled, kinky, swers, nonmonogamous, formerly incarcerated, immigrant, and activists or anarchists.
My educational training was centered around a psychodynamic lens, and I have been particularly drawn toward incorporating relational therapy, liberation psychology, somatic therapy, parts work, ERP, and trauma-focused therapies such as EMDR in my work.
I work from a liberatory, abolitionist approach. I view it as extremely important & necessary to confront the harmful structures we live in & the ways they have contributed to our pain & beliefs about ourselves and others. Much of what we call "symptoms" & "diagnoses" are actually reasonable, normal reactions to the things we have survived.
I approach therapy by focusing on building a relationship and a sense of trust, and doing so at a pace that feels tolerable so that healing can begin to happen. One of my favorite things to witness in my work with clients is when they begin to unlearn the negative ways they've been taught to view themselves, and to approach themselves with more compassion.
