I have over 30 years of experience and have worked in a wide variety of treatment settings, including in-home counseling, residential treatment, and outpatient community mental health centers as well as private practice. I help clients develop individual strategies to move forward through obstacles such as anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, trauma, adjustment issues, or difficulty connecting to a partner or family member to improve the functioning and relationships in their lives.
I work from a strengths-based model believing that we all have our own set of strengths and capabilities to help us recover from adversity. I build upon one's strengths and collaborate with the client to help problem solve to overcome emotional obstacles that may impact one's relationships, behaviors and thinking.
I know that therapy can be scary for people. We tend to seek help when we feel overwhelmed or out of control. It is important to develop trust so one can feel safe and understood. I have a gentle yet direct approach paired with humor when working with clients.
