Hard work has a place especially when we're striving for tangible things but what about the elusiveness of feeling present and engaged with ourselves and with others and having a sense of purpose and contentment? What happens when despite our best efforts and successes, felt experiences of unworthiness, fear, anxiety, emptiness, anger, and disconnection persist? The past gets integrated in ways that words and knowledge can't fully capture because it was experienced and we may still feel it emotionally and physically. Trauma has more to do with the fallout from the events - the ways we experience it in our current lives.
I approach our work together within a somatically integrated EMDR framework. I believe a somatic emphasis positions us better to notice and work through painful experiences, thoughts, beliefs, emotions, physical sensations and patterns of behavior that tend to mess us up. The fallout we continue to struggle with is a sign that our nervous system is stuck.
I am eager to learn about what is important to you and what brings you to therapy. I hope I am humble enough to know that I am not the expert in your life with all the answers and solutions. Rather, I work with you to increase and strengthen your own agency, self-awareness and resiliency by processing old, stuck stuff that too often doesn't speak in words.
