By the time many couples make it into counseling, they feel disillusioned and angry, even hopeless. Please know, however, that there is hope! Research into relationships shows that couples can discover and change how they interact, leading to a restoration of the connection they once had, or the creation of the one they always wanted.
The MFT license I hold is important because couples therapy is a specialty that requires extensive training over and above that required to work with individuals. Not every therapist who works with couples is trained to do so, and the results can be damaging.
My primary model for working with couples is Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. EFT is the fastest growing evidence-based method for treating relational distress in the world.
