We all have protective walls; they often contain emotions like a dam with water. You might notice that the dam is weakening or perhaps too strong; you need release but fear where the water will go. My work centers balancing the dam and directing streams of water to lower the pressure. As a queer therapist, I prioritize creating a safe space for gender, sexual, and relationship structure minorities to flourish. We may be a good match if you are seeking guidance and support for complex trauma, neurodiversity, sexual/gender identity, relationship concerns, and/or substance use (with recognition of the healing power of plant medicines).
I utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS) as a framework to explore and create harmony among the various parts of self. I also use an integration of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness. I am under the direction of Daron Elam, LPC and the supervision of Susan Marshall, LPC, CPCS.
I strive to foster the mindset of “observe, not absorb.” Our feelings, thoughts, and experiences are parts of us, but not our entire self. When parts of us feel uncomfortable, it often feels overwhelming to acknowledge them. My hope in the therapeutic process is that you ultimately observe your various parts from a place of compassion and acceptance.
