Welcome. My name is Joseph Martinez, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Pasadena, California, and seeing people by Telehealth and in person. I work with teens, adults, and couples primarily focusing on trauma, sexual addictions, betrayal trauma, and grief. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and EMDR to help you work through these difficult times and hopefully feel better. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach and after working with you to determine your needs and what works best for you, we go from there.
I mostly psychodynamic approaches to understanding your history and how you developed as a person so we both can have insight into the patterns that are being repeated in your life, but I will also use cognitive behavioral therapy and EMDR as needed to help break those patterns once we understand the "why."
I typically work with adults who are struggling with a sexual addiction such as pornography or other acting out behaviors, couples who have had infidelity in their relationship, and those who are suffering from the effects of trauma whether it be childhood trauma or events that have happened in their adult years.
